Spotlight on the Ink Drinkers: Bryanna Harbeke

Welcome to the first of what will hopefully be many Spotlight posts. The idea behind this is to highlight a different member of the Ink Drinkers Book Club every month. This is a chance for not only our current members to get to know each other, but for those of you thinking of joining who are wondering what kind of weirdos we let in. I (Bryanna) thought it would be easiest if I just got the ball rolling, so you can know what to expect. And who knows, maybe you find your next read. Or book friend!

Name: Bryanna Harbeke

Where were you born? I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I have been living in Zurich for about 10 years now.

How did you get into reading? Both my parents are big readers, so it started at a young age for me, with my dad reading Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys to me every night. Then my mom and I got into Harry Potter and the rest is history. I ended up studying German literature in undergrad, and got my Masters in English Lit at the University of Zurich.

What are your favourite genres? I’ll read almost anything (except romance… waiting to be convinced) but my favs are thrillers, horror, fantasy and the classics. Been on a big classics kick lately.

What are your top three favourite books at the moment? (And yes, I asked specifically “at the moment” because it’s always changing.) At this very moment, it’s The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, IT by Stephen King (and don’t come at me that Stephen King is not real literature… ) and East of Eden by John Steinbeck. A more extensive list will be coming out in a separate blog post.

And last but not least…. what are you currently reading? Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy, Beren & Luthien by J.R.R Tolkien and Boy’s Life on my Kindle. Don’t ask.
