My Trip Around The World

This might come as a shock to some people, but my tastes in literature tend to skew towards the western world, particular North American and English literature (with a dash of Russian, but we’ll save that for a different day. )

It started on my trip to Peru last year, when I realised I could not name a single Peruvian author. I asked my tour guide for some recommendations, and it turns out one had won the Nobel Prize for Literature, and I had still never heard of him.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I picked up One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and I was blown away, immediately falling down a rabbit hole of magical realism and Colombian literature. And that’s when it hit me.

I should read more literature from around the world. And so, because I don’t have enough to read already, I decided to embark upon a journey around the world.

And I want to take you with me.

My love for the British and American classics will never die. So in between reading those, I will be focusing on a region or country. It will be random, generated by an app that I’m using. The only rules are, I can’t skip a region if I don’t feel like, but if it’s a huge region, I can pick the country I want (like Africa, Eastern/Western Europe, or South America). I will also be reading some non-fiction alongside some of the regions to really get immersed.

I’m hoping this will be a learning experience (which it undoubtably will be) and that I’ll discover a love for a literature I never expected.

I will of course post a blog about what I’m reading, probably putting all of one region/country into one post. I hope you guys follow along and will maybe find something you weren’t looking for.

Happy Reading,

Bryanna
